The National Centre for Universities and Business (NCUB) has announced the appointment of Professor Alan Hughes, Director of the Centre for Business Research (CBR), as one of NCUB’s first Senior Research Fellows.
Professor Hughes, widely regarded as a world leading thinker on innovation, will primarily focus on the annual State of the Relationship report which NCUB will publish examining the landscape for business-university engagement. He will also oversee research for the Growing Value Programme on increasing the impact of the UK’s innovation systems.

Professor Alan Hughes is Director of the Centre for Business Research (CBR) and Margaret Thatcher Professor of Enterprise Studies at Cambridge Judge Business School, and a Fellow of Sidney Sussex College, University of Cambridge. He was previously Director of the National Competitiveness Network of the Cambridge-MIT Institute, a joint venture between MIT and the University of Cambridge. Professor Hughes has held visiting Professorships in the USA, France and Australia and is widely regarded as a world leading expert on industrial and technology policy; the measurement of innovation; growth, innovation and financial and acquisition characteristics of small and medium sized enterprises.
