As I am nearing the end of the Michaelmas term at Cambridge Judge Business School, I am still filled with the same sense of excitement, gratitude and curiosity as I was on my first day. The experience so far has been nothing short of transformative. Academically, personally and socially. From immersing myself in the world-class curriculum to participating in extracurricular activities, every day has been an opportunity to challenge myself to explore more, connect with incredible people from different walks of life, and dive deeper into the finance and business world.
A steep, yet rewarding learning journey
This first term has been a journey of intellectual and personal discovery for me. The curriculum is rigorous, designed to provide a strong foundation while encouraging me to think critically and utilise what we learn to real-world business challenges. The combination of case studies, interactive workshops and lectures, and multiple group discussions keeps things fresh, and the professors – leaders in their respective fields – have made a huge impact with their expertise and passion and have given me a new perspective.
Throughout this entire process, what has truly appealed to me is the focus on practical application to real world problems. We don’t just learn theory. We’re constantly encouraged to think out of the box about how these concepts play out in the real business world.
A truly global experience
One of the highlights of my time at Cambridge has been the diversity within the cohort. My peers come from a wide range of industries and countries, each bringing their own unique perspectives to discussions and group work. Collaborating with such a diverse group has been an enriching experience, broadening my understanding of global financial practices.
Cambridge’s culture of intellectual curiosity and open dialogue fosters an environment where everyone’s voice is heard and valued, which has made the experience even more rewarding.
Extracurriculars fuelling my passion
While academics are my key focus, Cambridge is also home to a vibrant range of extracurricular activities that make the experience truly unique. I’ve found great joy in participating in rowing, a sport that challenges me both physically and mentally. The discipline, teamwork and focus required in rowing mirrors many of the skills we practice in the classroom, and it’s been an excellent way to build camaraderie with peers from other degree courses, outside of the academic setting.
In addition to rowing, I’ve also started engaging with various clubs and industry events. From finance-focused groups to those centred on consulting, Cambridge Judge has provided a platform for students like me to explore their passions, develop leadership skills, and connect with key industry professionals. Attending guest lectures and panel discussions with global leaders has been eye-opening and highly informative, and it’s exciting to think about the career possibilities that lie ahead.
Finding balance in the Cambridge rhythm
Life at Cambridge is undoubtedly demanding, but the balance of work, social activities and personal time is what makes it sustainable and thoroughly enjoyable. A typical day starts with early lectures or group discussions, followed by collaborative work with classmates. The afternoons often involve extracurricular activities or networking events with industry professionals, and the evenings are spent reflecting on the day’s lessons or enjoying the beauty of Cambridge.
Being part of such an iconic university, where centuries of history meet modern academic excellence, is truly an experience I will always cherish. Whether it’s a stroll along the River Cam or exploring the historic colleges, there’s always something to marvel at in this beautiful city and university.
The journey has just started
As I reflect on my first term at Cambridge, I can already see how much I’ve learned – not just about finance, but about myself. I’ve pushed my limits, both intellectually and personally, and I am eager to continue this journey of growth and discovery.
I am excited for the rest of my time here as there are countless opportunities to explore, learn, and contribute to the global business community. The first term has set the foundation for what promises to be an unforgettable experience, and I look forward to what lies ahead.
