Varun Bhanot’s journey into the fitness tech world began with a mission to make personal training more accessible and affordable. Co-founding MAGIC AI, an innovative intelligent home gym, Varun introduced a game-changer in the fitness industry by integrating AI and smart weights to deliver personalised workouts. This technology aims to replicate the experience of having a personal trainer at home, akin to what Peloton did for cycling enthusiasts.

Identifying gaps in the market

As a visionary entrepreneur, Varun has demonstrated an ability to identify gaps in the market and leverage cutting-edge technology to address them. Before Magic AI, Varun co-founded Hubble, a proptech company that redefined the flexible office space market. Hubble’s success, marked by its rapid growth and widespread adoption, underscored Varun’s ability to disrupt traditional industries with innovative solutions.

The humble beginnings of Magic AI

Inspired by his own personal fitness journey and the realisation that personal training was often out of reach for many due to high costs and logistical challenges, Varun saw an opportunity. His vision was to democratise access to high-quality fitness training, leading to the creation of MAGIC AI. This AI-driven platform uses advanced technology and sophisticated algorithms to offer real-time feedback, adaptive workout plans and a comprehensive fitness experience tailored to individual needs.

Insights from the founder

In a podcast episode on ‘Strategy and Tragedy’, Varun shared his experiences and challenges in building MAGIC AI. He discussed the importance of resilience, especially handling rejections from investors gracefully; each rejection Varun faced was followed by team debriefs to analyse feedback, refine pitches and improve strategies, viewing these setbacks as opportunities for growth rather than failures. He also discussed innovation and the pivotal moments that defined the company’s path. Varun’s ultimate ability to secure investments, including from the CEO of Heights, underscores the confidence in MAGIC AI’s potential and the broader trend towards tech-driven fitness solutions.

Reflecting on his entrepreneurial journey, Varun wishes he had understood the importance of a robust support network earlier. Establishing connections with mentors, advisors and fellow founders can provide essential guidance and emotional support, significantly easing the entrepreneurial path. To help those entrepreneurs struggling with structure, Varun also recommends the following tips:

1

Prioritise and set clear goals

Break down overarching goals into manageable tasks, prioritising them based on urgency and importance.

2

Create a daily or weekly schedule

Develop a structured schedule that allocates time for different activities, helping manage time efficiently.

3

Utilise project management tools

Use tools like Asana, Trello or Monday.com to organise tasks, set deadlines, and track progress, enhancing overall project structure.

The pool of candidates on the course was really quite exceptional and I found myself learning just as much from each other as we did from the course itself.

“The MStE provided me with invaluable insights and practical knowledge that directly contributed to the development and success of Magic AI. The network and support from the programme have been instrumental in navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship. The financial and accounting parts have provided crucial as well as pulling together a convincing business plan and deck. Lastly, keeping in touch with my course mates has kept me motivated and I feel like I have a brilliant network I can tap into anytime.”
