Social impact award won by Cambridge Master of Finance student

Ming Hong Choi, a Master of Finance (MFin) candidate at Cambridge Judge Business School, has been honoured with a 2024 Vice-Chancellor’s Social Impact Award. This year, Ming was the only master’s candidate from the University of Cambridge to receive this award. Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Prentice presented the award to Ming at a ceremony on 30 April.

Organised by Cambridge Hub and sponsored by the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, the awards recognise and celebrate exceptional achievement in contributing to society. In total, 15 students were honoured in 6 key categories including innovation, global impact, and sustainability.

Honouring contributions across and beyond Cambridge

A recipient of the UK Government’s Chevening Scholarship and Cambridge Trust Scholarship and a native of Singapore, Ming “has made contributions across and beyond Cambridge through various leadership and advisory roles in youth leadership and development, real estate, investment, arts, sustainability, and educational initiatives,” the University said in announcing the awards.

At Cambridge Judge, Ming serves as the Co-President of the Real Estate Special Interest Group and the Investment Management Club. Within the broader institution, Ming has volunteered with the Cambridge Zero Policy Forum, the Cambridge SU Student-Led Teaching Awards, Kettle’s Yard, and the Green Impact Audit of Trinity Hall.

Beyond Cambridge, Ming has served on the selection committees and panels of grants, fellowships, scholarships, and awards of several organisations, including the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, the Diana Award, and the National Youth Council Singapore.

A decade of commitment to impact-driven initiatives

“It was truly humbling to receive the Vice-Chancellor’s Social Impact Award in recognition of my contribution to society while at Cambridge and a decade of commitment to impact-driven initiatives in both my personal and professional life. The award represents not merely my individual efforts but embodies the collective dedication of everyone I have had the privilege to collaborate with, and this recognition will inspire me to continue working towards a sustainable, inclusive, and equitable world,” said Ming. Most recently, Ming was also recognised as a Global Social Impact House Fellow by the Center for Social Impact Strategy at the University of Pennsylvania.
