Cambridge Centre for Health Leadership and Enterprise
Innovate, Scale, and Share: Pioneering Accessible and Affordable Healthcare Services.
Our mission
We develop and advance innovative organisational models to shape the future of healthcare delivery.
Our team, composed of academics and practitioner fellows, actively contributes through practice-led research, targeted teaching programs, and engagement with industry and government to further our mission.
What we do
Healthcare progress occurs in 3 phases: developing new technologies, integrating them into existing delivery processes at speed and scale, and commoditising proven solutions to make them affordable and widely accessible. Each phase presents unique challenges. We create themed initiatives around these core phases and build comprehensive educational and research programs to support our mission. Our passionate team members lead these programs, inspiring breakthroughs in the field.

To improve access to affordable healthcare for everyone by developing, refining and supporting new, disruptive not-for-profit business models.
We promote a novel not-for-profit business genre, called a healthcare utility, that enables collaboration between healthcare organisations with a goal to disrupt their supply chain and radically reduce costs, increasing access to essential healthcare products and services for all.
The Global Centre for Healthcare Convergence (GCHC), established by CCHLE, is a dedicated membership institution committed to building innovative healthcare delivery solutions at scale. In collaboration with Excite Venture, GCHC serves as an incubator, accelerator, and funding source for pioneering businesses. These enterprises are focused on a mission to enhance outcomes for specific population segments by implementing Precision Population Health SolutionsTM – a scalable, evidence-based clinical franchise model aimed at ending fragmentation challenges within healthcare systems. Through the alignment of digital, pharmaceutical, diagnostic, and data technologies with payment structures, healthcare provider workforce, local incentives, and government stakeholders, these ventures aspire to achieve unparalleled improvements of patient outcomes at scale.
Alongside our partner, Apollo Therapeutics, we are developing the biopharmaceutical MBA elective, generating research, Executive Education and engagement with the Cambridge biotech ecosystem.
Our faculty have produced an important book on this sector: From Breakthrough to Blockbuster: The Business of Biotechnology (2022), by DL Drakeman, LN Drakeman and N Oraiopoulos (named a Financial Times Business Top Title).
Our pathway to impact
1. Harnessing Cambridge University’s influence
We tap into Cambridge University’s unique ability to bring together stakeholders, fostering collaboration and facilitating the creation of mutually beneficial solutions to the most formidable challenges in healthcare delivery.
2. Co-creation across the spectrum
We collaborate directly with the broader university ecosystem, governmental bodies, and industry partners to develop and assess innovative delivery methods, spanning the entire journey from academic laboratory to patient outcome.
3. Nurturing healthcare leaders
We educate and empower leaders to drive the expansion of innovative business models throughout national healthcare systems, promoting positive change on a larger scale.
At CCHLE, we are dedicated to making high-quality healthcare more equitable and affordable, and addressing the rise of chronic diseases. Beyond technological innovation, we focus on scalable delivery models that seamlessly integrate with hospitals, primary care clinics, and payment systems. These innovative approaches, both for-profit and not-for-profit, harness entrepreneurial efforts and create the step-change improvements in outcomes for patients and taxpayers that we need to make progress in healthcare sustainable.
