Dennis Gillings

Dr Dennis Gillings CBE is a major benefactor of health management at the University of Cambridge. A generous donation in 1997 enabled the establishment of the Dennis Gillings Professorship in Health Management, to provide academic leadership in the field in Cambridge Judge Business School and the wider University. In 2009 this fund also provided the seed finance for the establishment of the Cambridge Centre for Health Leadership & Enterprise. Dr Gillings is founder, chairman and CEO of Quintiles Transnational Corp. He is a Cambridge alumnus in mathematics and a member of the Cambridge Judge Business School Advisory Board.

SSM Health is a fully integrated not-for-profit health care system offering comprehensive healthcare services across four states in the Midwest of the USA. The organisation has 40,000 employees and its facilities include 23 hospitals, more than 290 physician offices and other outpatient and virtual care services, ten post-acute facilities, comprehensive home care and hospice services, a pharmacy benefit company, a health insurance company and an accountable care organisation.

The partnership between Cambridge Judge Business School and SSM Health is focussed on the development of novel business models that underpin social enterprises with a mission to scale up known service innovations and reduce health inequalities by providing access to high quality care at the lowest sustainable cost. The two organisations are founding parties of the Healthcare Utility Initiative.

Cambridge University Hospitals and Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts

Cambridge University Hospitals and the Royal Papworth Hospital are located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and are recognised as global centres of medical excellence and innovation.

The relationship between the local hospital trusts and Cambridge Judge Business School includes research between faculty and clinicians, faculty sabbaticals, and the development and delivery of leadership programmes for the hospital and the East of England.

Granta Medical Practices, South Cambridgeshire

Granta Medical Practices is one of the largest primary care practices in the East of England, with a registered patient population of 45,000. GMP is widely recognised as a leader in the development of the future of primary care.

The relationship between GMP and Cambridge Judge Business School includes representation on the GMP Board, primary care research, faculty sabbaticals, and the development and delivery of primary care focused leadership programmes.

Cambridge Health Network

The Cambridge Health Network (CHN) promotes collaboration between the public, private and academic sectors by connecting over 1,000 of the most prominent healthcare leaders through debate, challenge and exclusive events.

The Network’s aim is to:

  • Provide a forum for leading players in health to meet informally.
  • Create a network where ideas can be conceived, developed and nurtured.
  • Offer a confidential, closed forum in which to test new ideas and policies amongst decision-makers and influencers.
  • Create an environment where strong, productive, business connections and relationships are forged.

Since CHN started, they have organised over 50 outstanding events, attracting the highest calibre of speakers – from government policy makers, key players in the Department of Health, NHS trust and commissioning unit CEOs, global company directors to founders of SMEs – all of whom are making a big impact on the healthcare landscape.

Research centres and the wider University

Cambridge Judge Business School has a number of research centres which are founded on strong interdisciplinary networks linking people from across the School, the wider University, business and the policy community.

The Centre for Health Leadership & Enterprise has links with the other centres in the School and departments in the wider University for collaborating on research, seminars and other events as the topic dictates.
